Projects

This is something something, a collection of projects I’ve worked on. Whether professional or just for fun.

I like working with people on fun projects, usually around the things I like (outside of work).

These let me scratch my itch (usually with a fun group of people) and maybe learn a new skill or two.

They usually involve some brainstorming, logistics, maybe a spreadsheet or two — overall just making sh*t happen and having fun doing it.

What’s The Rush? Documentary Screening & Launch Party

November ‘23 - 200+ attendees

A friend of mine directed a feature-length documentary Nick Broms: What’s the Rush covering a downhill skateboarder throughout the California coast.

Having been in the skateboarding community and wanting to support any way I could - I knew there was an opportunity to help promote the industry and create a memorable experience.

We led the charge in finding a venue here in Los Angeles, and securing a venue for a post-screening event.

  • From event planning to promotion and sponsorships - this was the perfect blend of project management and fun co-hosting with one of my closest friends Donovan Griffin

I’n 6 weeks, we had a sold out movie theatre, local sponsors, and even screen-printed a limited run of What’s the Rush apparel for the event - all pulling together a (fun event, memorable night for everyone of our 200+ attendees.

  • Most importantly? it was a ton of fun

From setting up Meta Pixels and Google Analytics, to building custom Looker Studio dashboards for reporting,

  • We worked together to ensure we had a simple and effective measurement system for growing this restaurant’s digital growth.

  • I implemented a simple and effective tech stack for this traditionally run quick-service favorite.

Dino’s Main Street: Digital Marketing

Fall ‘23 - $3k increase in monthly orders

I worked with Dino and his team of content creators to run paid social campaigns across Instagram and Facebook - targeting the “fast foodies” of East LA to drive foot traffic during restaurant slow times. Leveraging custom + lookalike audiences based off of their current 40k+ following, we increased

  • monthly orders by $3k in the first 3 months.

  • online ordering by XX%

Our latest promotion, the new Recession Menu generated an additional [XXk] in sales under 2 weeks with local influencers, XXk in paid promotion, and under $400 in ad spend.

Cruz Control

Cruz Control: Suspension Skateboards

US Patent No. 11,565,168, $28k in total sales

Going into college, I spent most of my time with a skateboard either in my hand or under my feet. It was the best way to get around campus, and even around the city in Boston; with enough miles on my board it led me to have this idea for a funky new kind of skateboard: one with a suspension system, designed to give you a smooth, fluid ride that (wasn’t currently on the market)

I recruited some of my closest friends to join me in entering my school’s Venture Accelerator (shoutout Northeastern’s IDEA Program) to develop this idea into a physical product

We spent months building our prototypes: cutting, bending, and heat treating high carbon spring steel to form our first suspension Flex Plates - working with local machine shops to make our first production run of 20 skateboard suspension brackets

  • Sought out help from local mentors in the engineering and procurement side, learned a lot about what it takes to build physical products

We sourced domestic machine shops for every step in our manufacturing process, and worked with international suppliers to bring together the components for a complete Suspension Skateboard.

With ugly-but-functional prototypes, I talked to every person with a board I could find at campus or in the city - gathering feedback and trying to validate our product.

I took an independent study in San Francisco with one of my co-founders, charting a path towards launching this concept on Kickstarter.

I downloaded some online courses (admittedly illegally, sorry Ezra Firestone) on running facebook ads, building online marketing funnels, and (working in eCommerce). I worked with a small budget of $4k over 3 months to generate awareness for our Kickstarter campaign, driving 5k signups to our pre-launch email list.

After graudation, I moved out to Ojai, Califoronia and we launched on Kickstarter in 2020, putting us into production. We spent the next 12 months going through the manufacturing process, working with international suppliers, (promoting the brand), and fulfilling our first 100 customers.

Allowed me to learn the ins and outs of digital marketing and ecommerce from a Zero to One mindset - understanding the entire customer journey (and the attribution necessary) to drive digital growth online.

I kept with digital ads, but found the most progress was made meeting people face to face (particularly in the skateboarding industries)

Took me to some of the best longboarding events in the country - trying downhill longboarding, understanding the various disciplines. — some of the most fun I’ve had with some of the best people.

To date we’ve sold over $26k worth of inventory and I continue to run alongside my [other projects, current full time roles]
